African DJs Call For Boycott Of South African Music

Afro beat DJs in Europe have placed a call on all Entertainers in Europe and all over the world to join in the action to shun all South African music and end all collaborations with South African artists, in view of the continuous xenophobic killings of Nigerians and other Africans resident in the country that has so far gone unabatted and unchecked by the South African authorities.

The statement released by African DJs (ADJS) said “We call on all deejays all over the world to boycot all music from South africa, they should stop playing or distributing them.

We cannot sit and watch while our brothers are beinh killed in South Africa. Enough is enough.

Nigerians and all other countries fought for the independence of South Africa.

We join to say No more killings”

The killings and lootings or burning of premises, residents and businesses of Nigerians in the country had been going on for years.

However, the recent upsurge in such gruesome atrocities which include setting people on fire in the streets and public shootings have attracted international attention.

A spate of violence that broke out in suburbs south of Johannesburg’s city centre on Sunday and spread to the central business district on Monday saw the destruction of more than 50 mainly foreign-owned shops and business premises.

Cars and properties were torched and widespread looting took place.

Millions have taken to social media, to comment on the ongoing evil and are calling for a mass boycott of all South African interests in Nigeria and in other parts of Africa.

Popular organisations in Nigeria such as telecommunications outfit MTN, media outfit DSTV and the Shoprite shopping malls are all owned by South Africans.

Nigerians worldwide have called on President Buhari to take action and treat the ongoing as a matter of great urgency.

There has also been a call to dismiss the South African ambassador in Nigeria and recall Nigeria’s consul from Pretoria, the nation’s capital city.

Meanwhile, the South African deputy minister of police Bongani Mkongi has been seen in a video saying ” how can a city be 80% dominated by foreign nationals? They fought for the land now it’s been taken over” giving greater support to the belief that the killings of Nigerians and other nationals in the former Apartheid colony is being supported by the authorities.

Nigerians worldwide are furious about the sad turn of treatment South Africans are metting out to Nigerians in their country particularly if one takes into acount, the great role played by Nigeria taking centre stage in the worldwide efforts to free the country from the shackles of white dominance in the 80s and early 90s.

Many exiled South Africans were given succour and asaylum in Nigeria and many suth African youths were educated and emlployed in Nigeria.

Ironically, South Africans nationals blame immigrants for high unemployment in cities across the contry particularly in manual labour.

South Africa is a major destination for economic migrants from the southern Africa region, with many moving from neighbouring Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Nigeria in search of economic resettlement and work.
