CANUK ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVES FOR LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK), has successfully elected its new leadership  committee for the period 2017 – 2019.

The elections for new executives which hold every two years, were carried out over a 2 month period, under the auspices of an Electoral Committe headed by a representative of the Nigerian High Commission, with nominations being invited from the body of member-associations and associates. The nominees who after duly competing the required electoral registration, were subjected to votes by the organisation’s delegates.

Many of the new officers were however elected unopposed owing to the fact that not many people were willing to come forward and take up office with CANUK who’s reputation and image had been badly marred by infighting, acrimony and general bitterness among its outgoing leadership, under the chairmanship of Babatunde Loye. Most of the inhouse fighting often spilled out to the public and on many occasions became topics for highly embarrassing discussions.

The general view within the community is that CANUK needs a complete rebranding and image laundering under men and women who are more service and community focused than the selfish and self aggrandizement agenda of the past leadership.

The new executives will be formally sworn in at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting on the 27th of May – subject however to the adoption and ratification of the elections result by the delegates at the AGM when the election for the Organisation’s Chairman will also take place.

So far, the only candidate and overall favorite for the number 1 post is top community leader and Engineer, Dr Boma Douglas.
