David Beckham was named as People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2015 on Tuesday during a live broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel.

The 40-year-old former English football captain became the latest title holder in the annual feature that has been a staple in the magazine for 30 years.

‘It’s a huge honor,’ Beckham told People.  ‘And I’m very pleased to accept.’

‘I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person,’ the self-effacing husband of Victoria Beckham and father of four said.

‘I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way,’ he added.

The former Manchester United and Los Angeles Galaxy star revealed that he never played a superhero, was not an actor and had never been a member of a boy band.

After revealing his identity Beckham jovially called the title the ‘best moment of my career’ before thanking his parents for having him as well as his hairdresser and stylist.

Beckham first gained fame following a spectacular goal for Manchester United in 1996 and his superior skill on the pitch made its way mainstream in the 2002 comedy-drama Bend It Like Beckham.

Despite his self-deprecating comments Beckham for more than a decade has been recognized as a style icon.

He’s also become a sought-after spokesman with lucrative endorsements with Armani, H&M, Diet Coke and Burger King.

Beckham also has a $160 million lifetime contract with Adidas and previously had a 10-year collaboration with Pepsi Co. that ended in 2009.

Chris Hemsworth, 32, was the reigning 2014 Sexiest Man Alive.

David also told People magazine his wife had congratulated him on his accolade and he joked: ‘I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway!’

He went on to say his sons had been disbelieving when he told them the news, with his eldest boy Brooklyn, 16, joking that it should have been him getting the award.

The magazine first awarded the Sexiest Man Alive title in 1985 with Mel Gibson the inaugural winner.

Personally I find tattoos covering most of a man’s body a massive turn off.

But we do love our Dave.
