Nigerian community leader Dr Dayo Olomu, was a guest of the London’s Sikh community at a special reception to celebrate Vaisakhi.

Dr Olomu (aka DDO) who is the current Vice Chairman, CIPD South London, board member of Southwark Board of Education and a key person of influence in the African Diaspora Community in UK was at the reception last Tuesday on the invitation of Deputy Labour Party Leader Tom Watson MP.

Vaisakhi, also spelled Baisakhi, is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar.

It signifies the harvest festival in the Punjab region of India, and also marks the day that Sikhism was born as a collective faith in 1699.

Dr Olomu will be the first from the UK-Nigerian community to be invited to or to attend such an event within the Sikh community which boasts of at least 600,000 members in the UK.

Nigeria is reported to have an estimate of 2million citizens including undocumented and British born Nigerians currently living in the UK.
