Gary Lineker and wife Danielle are set to divorce after six years of marriage, it has been revealed.
Last night the former England captain confirmed the news to reporters but said he would not be commenting any further.
The football pundit and his model wife reportedly ended their relationship because Danielle was desperate to have another child, but the father-of-four felt he was too old to start another family.
The couple spent Christmas together but in recent months Danielle has spent more time in LA, while Leicester-born Lineker is tied to work commitments in the UK.
Sources also claim Danielle wanted to try for a baby but that Gary was completely against starting another family.
A source close to the pair told the Mirror: “They made a great couple but their different views on having children is what made them realise they had to split.
“They both know it is the right thing to do and are looking forward to the future. They are convinced they will stay friends.”
They added: “Usually these things are very sad and often acrimonious but with Gary and Danielle it is very much friendly with no legal battle that can cost a lot of money.”
The pair have four grown up sons together – George, Tobias, Harry and Angus, while Danielle has a 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “Gary and Danielle have decided to end their marriage and their divorce was confirmed today with a judge granting a decree nisi.
“They remain the greatest of friends and wish each other every happiness.”
