If you’re completely fed up with you job and thinking about a career change, pick up a dustpan and brush and make your way to Windsor Castle.

The Queen is hiring cleaners to take care of the Berkshire estate as well as the Palace of Holyroodhouse, her official Scottish residence.

Sadly, you probably won’t be cleaning up corgi poo or polishing the crown jewels, but you will get to know an iconic British building very well.

The job ads have been posted on The Royal Household website, with the Windsor Castle job all about ‘knowing the room is spotless before thousands of visitors arrive’.

The 20-hour a week role at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh pays £8,788 per year, while Windsor Castle is more flexible, with full-time and part-time positions available.

Her Maj is also nice enough to throw in a free lunch, which is nice.

Royal cleaners must ensure that public areas seen by visitors are at their magnificent best, while also taking care of state rooms, staff offices and accommodation.

Unlike most cleaning jobs, successful applicants will be tasked with caring for items including ‘delicate fabrics and antique furniture’. No pressure.

The job description reads: ‘You’ll work in all different types of rooms at the Palace, public facing and behind the scenes, including the visitor route, all public areas, staff offices and state rooms, ensuring that they’re presented to their best for colleagues, visitors and the Royal Family.’

It continues: ‘Housekeeping or cleaning experience would be an asset, but is by no means essential. We’re more interested in your ability to work well in a team.’

Applications for the Palace of Holyroodhouse close on July 20, while the Windsor Castle jobs are open for an extra three days.
