Police officers have recovered a machete and arrested two males including a teenager in Merton.

At around 00:05hrs on Thursday, 31 March, officers on routine patrol in Merton High Street stopped a Vauxhall Corsa containing two males.

The 17-year-old passenger sought to make off but fell over. His fall is likely to have been connected to the machete, contained within a sheath, which was hidden inside his trouser leg.

A quantity of a substance believed to be cannabis and a set of scales was recovered from the car.

The driver of the car, aged in his early 20s, and the 17-year-old passenger were arrested and taken to a south London police station where they remain in custody.
