LUFTHANSA PASSENGER JET DECLARES MID FLIGHT EMERGENCY

A LUFTHANSA passenger jet has declared a mid-air emergency while flying over France.

The plane flew over France on its way to the Colombian capital but appears to have turned back around the western French coast.

The flight had been due to arrive in Bogota later this evening.

The reason for the emergency was not immediately obvious but Lufthansa later confirmed the plane turned around due to a smell on board.

After an aircraft change the flight is set to continue, Lufthansa confirmed.
