Olugbenga Obatola, a Nigerian born Thamesmead councillor has become Greenwich’s first ever deputy mayor of African descent.
Councillor Olu Babatola is deputy to new mayor Councillor Norman Adams. Both were sworn in at a ceremony in May 2015.

The Deputy Mayor, a married father of three who should take the full mayoralty next year said of his landmark election “I am greatly honoured to be the first African councillor to be elected as the Deputy mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We have demonstrated that ours is truly a borough of unity in diversity.”
