Following the departure of Dr Tafida Dalhatu, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the the UK for the last 7 years, a new High Commission to the court of St James’s has been appointed. He is Ambassador Kunle Bamgbose – who was until this appointment, the Deputy High Commissioner after taking over from Dr Toyin Lawal who has since been redeployed on another assignment.
Ambassador Bambgose graduated from the University of Nsukka, Enugu in 1982 with a degree Mass Communication and joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 1983.
As a diplomat, he has served in new York as Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations; in Japan and in Mauritania.
Until recently, he was the director, Joint Commission, Trade & Investment Division of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prior to that, he was the Director North and Central America Division of the Foreign Ministry.
Speaking to confirm the appointment before leaving for Abuja, Dr Tafida said of Mr Bamgbose, “Having worked in 3 different high commissions in the time past, I have seen in Ambassador Olukunle Bamgbose leadership qualities that will make him the best man for the job.

His appointment however will for now be in an Acting capacity pending ratification from Abuja.
