Top Nigerian artistes D’Banj, BankyW, Femi Kuti, Waje, Omotola Jalade and Waje have joined hands with Bono, the U2 lead singer to do a remix of the song “Strong Girls”.
Originally produced by Cobhamns Asuquo, the song is a women’s empowerment initiative to sensitize the public on the need for greater investment in girls and women, based on the idea that poverty is sexist meaning, it is harder for a girl born in poverty to fight it out than a boy and poverty won’t be defeated until women and girls are put first..
Female artistes from seven African countries came together in South Africa earlier in May to write and record the song. Speaking at a press briefing at the Four Point Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Omotola explained why she got involved in the campaign.
According to her, “I am fortunate to be a young woman living her dreams, a trailblazer of my generation.
Others involved in the remix project are Diamond Platnumz and Selmor Mtukudzi.
