SERVING MET POLICE OFFICER IN MULTIPLE THEFT CHARGES

A serving Metropolitan Police Service Detective Sergeant, Michael Harrington, 44, has today, Wednesday, 6 April, been charged with 11 counts of theft.

He will appear on bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 19 May.

The charges follow an investigation by the Directorate of Professional Standards Specialist Investigation unit.

DS Harrington, a financial investigator based within the Specialist Crime and Operations (SCO) Specialist and Economic Crime Command, was arrested on 28 July 2015, and was suspended from duty that day.

The charges of theft relate to 11 victims, totalling in the region of £58,000. The offences are believed to have taken place on various dates between 12 October 2010 and 28 July 2015.

The investigation is ongoing and will attempt to identify any further victim
