My friend Bimbo Roberts Folayan wrote on his Facebook wall:
When a British person with Nigerian origin or ancestry commits a crime in the UK, the media in the UK including BBC News, SKY etc use the guys’ full native names and refer to them as Nigerians.
But when a guy does good or breaks a record, wins an Oscar or a major sporting championshiop, the same media refer to him as pure British with very little or no reference whatsoever to their Nigerian roots.
Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua (thanks DJ Abass Tijani) has just won the IBF World Heavyweight title and the world calls him Anthony Joshua. Aa far as they are concerned, he is only just a British citizen with no Nigerian ancestry. Wow, what a funny world.
Anyway, congratulations to Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua who is British but is originally from Nigeria, a strange, funnier country where the ‘leaders’ and politicians don’t support or encourage good things or good people.
