A Donald Trump supporter says she is shocked that her husband has been deported to Mexico, despite being a “good person”.
Roberto Beristain, 43, moved to the US almost 20 years ago, and settled with his wife, Helen, in Indiana.
He had initially travelled to the country to visit a relative, but decided to remain in the US without the proper immigration documents, BuzzFeed reported.
He was detained in February during a routine check-in with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
He spent almost two months in detention centres but was suddenly taken to Juarez, Mexico, on Tuesday night, he said in a statement released by his lawyers.
Mr Beristain said: “They suddenly told me it was time to go.

“They told me to get my stuff, they put me in the back of a van, and sped toward the border.”
His wife, who thought that Mr Trump’s clampdown would only apply to people with criminal records, has been left shocked.
She told local media: “[Mr Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked.”
Mr Beristain’s family have set up a petition calling for his return to the US.
