The London Branch of the UNIBEN Alumni UK last week played host to the UNIBEN Alumni Worldwide President, Hon Ifaluyi Isibor.
Attended by many Alumnus from both London and other UK chapters, the event was a great opportunity for many UNIBEN Alumnus who hadn’t previously been present at meetings, to experience first hand the joviality of UNIBEN Alumni gathering. It was, according to the London Chapter President, Douglas Oguebor, a record number of attendees since the inception of the current UK UNIBEN Alumni organisation.
Addressing the Alumnus, Hon isibor praised the efforts of the Executive commitee of the London Chapter and encouraged them to continue with developing and growing the organisation. He urged members to endeavour to attend meetings regularly and also to invite along other Uniben Alumnus in London of which he is certain must be many.
Hon Isibor also suggested that the UK Alumni organisation looks into organising a UK UNIBEN Reunion such as they have in the US and Canada. Such a major event, according to him, will bring together many former alumnus from other cities including from Nigeria and Europe and encourage membership from UK based alumnus.
Addressing the gathering about the goal and objectives of the current Worldwide UNIBEN Alumni Council, Hon Isibor listed among others the official construction and handing over of an Ultra modern 1000 capacity Lecture Theatre in Ugbowo Campus and the construction of a modern Alumni Guest House also in Ugbowo Campus.
He also stressed the goal of the current Council in assisting members in the diaspora in pursuing personal interest in the University such as in children or relatives admission into the University and assisting with the reduction in the time and stress in obtaining transcripts.
Also mentioned by Hon Isibor was the Distinguished Alumni Forum whereby Honorary Degree UNIBEN ALumnus worldwide who are excelling in their chosen fields and careers are recognised and honoured.
Hon Isibor who was once a Member of The Nigerian National Assembly and currently a Commissioner, Federal character Commission, Edo State, stopped over in the UK en route to Florida USA for the 10th UBAANA Reunion.
In his resppnse, the President of UK National Alumni Dr James Ojo, thanked Hon Isibor for taking the time out of his schedule to visit London.
He also thanked Hon Isibor for all the words of encouragement he gave to the organisation and stressed that his executive will endeavour to establish other Alumni Chapters in other UK cities. At this point, he gave the commitment of a UNIBEN UK Alumni Reunion to be held in summer 2016 and expressed the hope that Hon Isibor will attend the event.
Also present at the meeting were Godwin Forson, Princess Osta Marioghae, Aloysius Ikezie, Franklin Akpomuvwe, Augustine Iremiran – Secretay General and several other committed UK UNIBEN Alumnus including BaronessJ Jummy Ariyo
