One week after the murder of 16-year-old Joshua Bwalya in Barking, East London, detectives will be revisiting the scene of the incident to re-appeal for information.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes, of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation.

He said: “Tonight, my officers will be back at the scene handing out leaflets and speaking to people in the area.

“If you were in the area of Movers Lane by Ripple Road on the morning of Joshua’s murder and saw anything, or if you have information that could assist this investigation, then please contact police or Crimestoppers.

“Joshua’s young life was cut short by a senseless act of violence when he was approaching the prime of his life.

“The attack was not only cowardly, but brutal. I urge anyone who has information that can help our investigation to come forward and help us to bring Joshua’s murderers to justice.”

Police were called at 01:00hrs on Wednesday, 2 August to Movers Lane in Barking – near the junction with Ripple Road – to reports of a stabbing. Officers attended and found Joshua suffering from stab wounds.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended but Joshua was pronounced dead at the scene

Formal identification took place and a post-mortem examination was held on Thursday, 3 August. The cause of death was recorded as multiple stab wounds.

Two other males – aged 16 and 20 years – were also found nearby with stab wounds. They were taken by LAS to separate hospitals where they were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Both were subsequently discharged following treatment and into police custody. [A] was initially released on police bail but has been now released with no further action. [B] has also been released with no further action.

A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were also arrested on Monday, 7 August on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody at an east London police station.

Officers have also arrested a fifth man; a 19-year-old man [E] was arrested on the evening of Monday, 7 August on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a south London police station.
