Veteran Nollywood actress, Eucharia Anunobi, has lost her only child to sickle cell disease. The news of the death of the young boy was posted by Adekeye E. Tosin on Twitter.
15-year-old Raymond died from complications arising from the disease on Tuesday, August 22. The deceased was born from the union with Charles Ekwu, her ex-husband in 2002. Raymond was a sickle cell patient from the moment he was born.
In an interview with Thenet.ng, the actress spoke about the passing of her son who fought the sickle cell disease till the very end.
She expressed her appreciation to everyone for their concern and prayers.
“My son has gone to our place of origin (heaven) to be with our daddy Jesus, waiting for me when I eventually go there at the fullness of time.”
In his message, pastor Adekeye implored Nigerians to pray for the woman who must be devastated with the death of her only child. He prayed for her to find strength in this tough time as he asked God to comfort her.
Eucharia was one of the original nollywood movies actresses who kicked off the home movies industry long before Genevieve Nnaji, Tonto Dike and Mercy Johnson. Best know for her role in the 1994 movie “Glamour Girls” and most particularly Nollywood’s first ever raunchy sex scene in the bathroom with Zack Orji which set tongues wagging for years. And of course the infamous scene where girls had to have sex with a dog.
She was married to Charles Ekwu from 2000 to 2009 but he walked out on her leaving her to bring up their son by herself. She became a born again Christian and was ordained a pastor in 2012.
At her her ordination, Eucharia vowed to use her fame and rascality to winning souls for Christ. She also assured her teeming fans that she would not abandon her acting career, pointing out that she will be more choosy in terms of accepting roles in movies.
