During the festive season when many are merrying and celebrating, there are others that are not quite as fortunate or have much cause to celebrate. They are those who have unfortunately fallen on bad times and lost their homes through job loss, family and relationships break down, alcoholism and drugs use.
Many of these folks find themselves with nowhere to live and with no family or friends willing to take them in, often resort to living rough on the streets of London, under all weathers and through all seasons.
But the people of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Good News Haven Thamesmead in South East London decided to show some Chiristmas cheer and donate some food hampers to people living in the streets of Thamesmead and its environs.
Leading the church members out on the mercy assignment on the stroke of midnight on Christmas day, the Parish Pastor Godday Okosun said “Christmas is all about sharing the love of Christ and practically too”
In all, 40 food hampers were given out. The food items were purchased with funds donated by church members.
The church plans to make this an annual event with more hampers handed out.
