People often tear down the church and church goers and label them as a bunch of sinning hypocrites. As much that this statement might have some truth in it, what these folks fail to realise is that by these thoughts and words, they have unwittingly made themselves exactly what they are accusing others of being.
What they have forgotten is that Christ did not come to save a perfect world. He, knowing the world was imperfect, full of sinners and a corrupt hopeless race still came to change us from our sinful ways save the world from the consequences of our sins.
The church is like a hospital where the good, the bad and the downright ugly, fully realising their lowly state, come to for healing and salvation.
Folks do not come to church because they are clean and holy and without blemish. They do so because they have come to the realisation that they are none of the above but need help to attain some gradually achieved iota of those.
Many Church goers see themselves as, and will confess that they are works in progress. By regularly coming to church they enjoy the fellowship or other Christian, networking with other like minded folks, which in itself is a commandment to all Christians (Hebrews 10:25)…
But the regular listening to sermons and messages with regular attendance at Bible study sessions help people to turn their lives around and change their ways
The power of corporate worhip and prayers cannot be over estimated. The energy alone generated by the sheer communal experience is in the least, uplifting, encouraging and healing due only to the powerful presence of God (Matthew 18:20)
People leave Sunday Church service feeling fed, joyous and happy.
For many it is a two hour opportunity to leave behind and forget the mundaneness of their daily lives and personal situations that for some people can be very saddening indeed.
Ironically church attending folks generally do not even perceive themselves as holier than thou or even superior beings. It is usually others who measure themselves up against Church folks and award themselves lower marks but choose to lash out in self hating bitterness.
One of my friends recently posted a request on Facebook for his friend searching for a perfect church and he included a list of conditions. My response was if the friend was truly looking for the perfect church, he needed to first die and go to heaven because there is where the ONLY perfect church is.
Many such folks blame their negative attitude towards Church and church people on past bad experiences they’ve had in church.
Who hasn’t?
But more importantly how does it differ from experiences you have with people outside the church? Have you forgotten that the church is made up of people from outside the church that are only brought together by one common factor – CHRIST?
And what do you achieve by denouncing the entire body of Christ just because of one or two bad experiences at the hands of just 1 person?
Folks scrutinising Church folks and accusing them of being judgemental should stop and take a closer look in the mirror and decide who really the judgemental one is…..
As for me, I admit and accept that I am an imperfect bring saved and loved by a wholly perfect God to whom I have surrendered my life so He can gradually work on me and progressively bring me closer to perfection
And there is nowhere else I would rather spend my Sunday mornings but in Church fellowshipping with fellow imperfect brethren, loved and saved by a Wholly Perfect Saviour.
